JULIE MORSTAD

Julie Morstad is one of my favourite Illustrators. The illustration above is from her book 'Milk Teeth', I own a copy of the book and look through it regularly as it is a good source of inspiration for my own illustration work. "Milk Teeth’s universe, populated by animals, flowers, peculiar objects and disembodied heads, has a sensibility reminiscent of Marcel Dzama’s surreal drawings, Jeffrey Eugenides’ haunting novel The Virgin Suicides, and Peter Weir’s classic film Picnic at Hanging Rock."

DEBORAH BOWNESS

I spotted the above wallpaper at Caravan (see previous post). The photo above doesn't do it justice! It's incredible, I want a whole wall covered in it (which would cost me a small fortune at £159 a drop!)
The wallpaper is designed and handprinted by Deborah Bowness - visit her website to view her inspirational collection of wallpapers. http://www.deborahbowness.com/

CARAVAN

On my last trip to London I discovered this darling little shop called Caravan, on Redchurch Street in Shoreditch. It is full of lovely things, Oh my! if only I had my own little house and lots of money! Maybe one day? (I can wish!). I ended up buying a cute little ceramic white bird which now watches over me at my desk. Have a little look at Caravan's beautiful website, click here.

WHY DO YOU LET ME STAY HERE?

Joseph & Zooey Cut a Rug During a Bank Heist!
Love this video and the song by She & Him. Oh and the dancing of course.

"Marc Webb directed Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in this dance video - which is totally independent from (500) DAYS OF SUMMER - about romance amidst a bank heist. Zooey gives a brief introduction. Watch and enjoy!" (via here)

SHE & HIM

I am a huge fan of the beautiful duo 'She & Him' so I was very excited to read today that they have announced that their second album, Volume Two, will be released on March 23rd, 2010! "Written by Zooey (She) and produced by M.Ward (Him), Volume Two is the follow up to the duo's critically acclaimed debut, Volume One. The album includes eleven original tracks and two covers - "Ridin' In My Car" by NRBQ and Skeeter Davis' "Gonna Get Along Without You Now". It will be available via Merge Records." I sure can not wait!

SNOWBOUND

I took this photograph a couple of hours ago - it's my back garden. It's snowing again, which has defeated my plans to drive down to Falmouth yet again. My car doors were frozen shut this morning and my car buried in snow. It has been snowing heavily all day, we have about 10-15cm of snow all over and a freezing fog has descended from the peaks. It's kind of eerie!

I HAVE BEEN SNOWBOUND FOR A FORTNIGHT NOW AND I'M STARTING TO GET CABIN FEVER!

FROZEN CABINS IN THE WOODS

Bon Iver On 'Blood Bank' (And An Unlikely Hit)

MUSIC INTERVIEW: LISTEN HERE

My friend John just sent me a link to this interview. It's very relevant to me at this point in time... especially six minutes into the interview. I am currently hibernating and trying to make a recovery from the illness I am suffering from and things I'm going through. I recently left Falmouth (my home of four years) to stay with my family who are now in a different place to where I grew up. A brand new place for me. This is where I am reflecting on the last six years of my life, I have reached a point in my life where something needs to change. Like Justin points out in the interview, "you can't really be aware of that because you're so within it, you're so in the present moment. And that present moment seems to be constantly fleeting at the same time".
--
"Frozen cabins in the woods of Wisconsin aren't normally places where legendary music is born. But in the middle of winter two years ago, at one such cabin, the spirits of folk-rock somehow came together to help Justin Vernon record a masterpiece... "

A NEW DECADE

Not only is this year coming to an end but this decade is also coming to an end! Personally, I'm very pleased about this. The last year has been a huge struggle - but what is life without challenges? I'll be taking all of the incredible bits and lessons learnt from this decade into the new decade and look forward to many more incredible people, better experiences and  better mistakes. Farewell to 2009 and hello there 2010.

Happy New Year to everyone - I wish everyone lots of love and happiness for 2010 x

AWAY WE GO

I love this soundtrack, it's beautiful :)
Away We Go

TIME TO CHANGE

You can only begin to understand what it's like to suffer from a mental health illness if you have suffered yourself. Getting the world to change their views and put an end to the discrimination surrounding mental health is a very hard mission. However, it is something that is long overdue and I hope that 'Time To Change' can make a difference.

FRANK

My budgie Frank... he is pretty special. He was born with defect feet which affect his balance. He couldn't fly when I first got him at the age of 6weeks and he had such trouble with his feet. But Frank is a determined little bird and he is doing very well now. He has a beautiful girlfriend called Line Lorna and they are very much in love. He uses his feet like there is nothing wrong with them, his balance is excellent and he can fly pretty well... quite nippy now. He does however still crash into things... I'm thinking about making him a little crash helmet.

IT DOESN'T MATTER

Since arriving home I have had way too much time to think...
I have slowly driven myself crazy.
When it really comes down to it.... It doesn't matter baby!

A CIRCLE NOT A ♥

"If you love someone, put a circle around their name instead of a heart because as pretty as it looks, hearts ♥ can be broken but circles go on forever."

O-CHECK DESIGN GRAPHICS

I own quite a few things by o-check design and they are amongst some of my favourite possessions. They are one of my favourite design studios and have a beautiful range of products.
"Sometimes an everyday product which does not have a great meaning to it, can happen to evoke high feelings of emotion or nostalgia. In a small way it becomes a means of expressing ourselves.
We strive to design products which capture these feelings and can be a present for someone, a memory to another or give pleasure to another.
The aim of the design is to be highly functional without too much decoration, however the products are simply focussed on function but are emotion-triggering; the designs not merely indictating design itself but something having much deeper meanings within. We're willing to stand in the center of new changes."

THE NATIONAL

This song is beautiful...
I've been listening to The National a lot lately. It reminds me of a certain curly haired volunteer barista from Babahogs. His name is Jim and he used to make me the finest vanilla café lattes whilst playing The National. I miss him.
